Karate
Find out how St. Gabriel's Secondary School's Karate programme builds character and skills through weekly training sessions each Friday.
Beliefs & Outcomes
Under the guidance of Sensei David Thong, Karate at St Gabriel’s is more than martial arts; it is a journey of growth, discipline and self-discovery. Every Friday, students refine their techniques while embracing the values of Respect, Honour, Courage and Focus.
Through team drills and sparring sessions, members learn to collaborate, think on their feet and remain composed when facing challenges. Training encourages them to take responsibility for their actions, practise self-control and approach setbacks with determination.
Beyond physical fitness and technical proficiency, Karate develops confidence, adaptive thinking, problem-solving skills and resilience. These qualities equip students to overcome obstacles, make sound decisions and support others, preparing them to succeed not only on the mat but also in school and life.

The ultimate aim of karate lies not in the victory nor defeat but in the perfection of the character of it participants.— Gichin Funakoshi
